Always celebrating food and drink culture, this new piece is inspired by minimal Japanese forms but using a vivid Moroccan-inspired blue calligraphic ink and a dragged pen technique with long, flowing strokes that extend beyond the nib’s normal point of exhaustion.

This painting tells of a moment at the table. Perhaps a bundle of steaming noodles is falling into a glazed bowl, or a flower petal drifting into a delicate cup, or a stream of liquid plummeting into a stemless glass.

Where my photography often presents a frozen, timeless version of a perfected food or drinking occasion, by contrast these new Vessel pieces relax into a more open expression of movement and an ageing acceptance of the passing of time.

This is an original one-of-a-kind piece, ink-painted on 300gsm heavyweight textured paper. Upon purchase it will be wrapped in acid free tissue paper and shipped in a protective cardboard tube/envelope.
